Sweets And Sticky Treats This Season
We recommend eating sweets and sticky treats at the end of a
meal rather than
in between meals as a snack. Most people don't realize the importance of this,
but for children it can be a huge benefit for letting them enjoy their Halloween
treats and minimize the damage to their teeth.
Sugary foods and snacks go hand in hand with tooth decay and cavities. There
are natural bacteria that live in your mouth that produce a sticky film (plaque).
When this film comes into contact with something sugary you eat, the plaque
bacteria feeds on the sugar turning it into an acid. This acid will eat
away at the
hard enamel on your teeth, and over time cavities will form.
Another tip is to drink water with these snacks to rinse the
sugar from your
teeth when you're done. Also try eating healthier treats as oppose to the sweet
and sticky ones - such as raisins, seasame snaps and other sugar-free treats.
If you're going to indulge, do so in moderation because aside from the dental
problems, you should be thinking about your overall health. With Christmas
season around the corner, there will be plenty of eating done so be conscious of
what you put in your stomache!
